A typical street in Cádiz, the oldest city in Europe dating back to the Phoenicians in 1104 BC. Because of its age and its location on a small spit of land jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, the skyline has not changed much since medievil times. An important piece of architecture to notice in this photo is the watchtower at the end of the street. In the 18th century, there were more than 160 watchtowers in the city. The watchtowers were used by local merchants waiting for incoming ships bringing goods.
